Thanks, got it working in VirtualBox hosted on a Dell 1579 Windows 10 laptop.

A few Settings tweaks that worked well for me that varied from the .OVF file:
    1. System, Motherboard, Enable EFI, Chipset ICH9
    2. Enabled Audio, Windows Direct Sound, Intel HD Audio
    3. Network, Adapter Type: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (8254OEM)
    4. Display, bumped Video Memory from 4mb to 8mb, not sure if this makes any difference

The Display is unrecognized so video resolution is limited to 1024x768, but for a VM this works ok for me.

This looks good - just deployed it to Esxi 5.5. Is there a way to get Open-vm-tools installed and the nvidia-svga driver? It would be great to be able to run is with remote X too, but that may be asking too much.

    Rob,

We're not actively developing any VM features, but if you and our other users figure out a way to do this let me know and we can feature some instructions!

Thanks for making this available! I tried to do a scratch install and couldn't make it work. But the VirtualBox OVF worked great (I used gtech's settings - haven't tried any others) running VirtualBox 4.3 on Fedora 22.

Strangely, I have two systems (a laptop and desktop) running the same OS (64-bit Fedora 22), the same VirtualBox (4.3), siimilar CPUs (Care-i5 on the laptop, Core-i7 on the desktop), and installed the same VirtualBox appliance, but it only works on the laptop. The desktop starts to boot, then hangs with a blank screen and no disk or network activity

Hi. Works on WMware Fusion 8.1.0 on Mac OS X 10.11 also. Just start Fusion and "File" > "New..." and select "import an existing machine" and then select "CloudReady Free 44 VMware.ovf". No need to do anything else. Thanks!!!

Does anyone know how to make this VM run fullscreen?

I use this VM as a point of reference when someone calls me for help with a Chromebook (which isn't often), and being able to see it fullscreen would be a big help. I'm running this VM under VMware Workstation 12 Player.

Hi, any support for Ubuntu VM?

Is there a newer version of this? Are these still the 2015 release?

If I start with v 44 can I update after setting up the VM in Vmware Fusion?

Seems to work quite well in VMWare Fusion 6 on a Macbook 13" retina.

Although the screensize doesn't seem to max out to the full width of the screen. And it is running at a kind of weird resolution that is a bit fuzzy.

I can't get the VMware OVF to work on Workstation 10.0.7 build-2844087.

First error is The import failed because C:\VirtualMachines\Chrome\CloudReady Free 44 VMware.ovf did not pass OVF specification conformance or virtual hardware compliance checks.

Click Retry to relax OVF specification and virtual hardware compliance checks and try the import again, or click Cancel to cancel the import. If you retry the import, you might not be able to use the virtual machine in VMware Workstation.

Then relaxing the OVF spec, I get:
Line 31: Unsupported value '2' for element 'VirtualQuantity'.

The guest operating system '*other3xLinuxGuest' is not supported.

Virtual machine has 2 virtual CPUs, but the host only supports 1. The number of virtual CPUs may be limited by the guest OS selected for the virtual machine or by the licensing for the host.

Sounds like you might need to change your Virtual Machine container to spec 1 CPU instead of dualcore?

Exact same problem here as just described by Jeff Arndt above. Running VMPlayer 6.0.7 on Windows 7.

    Hey all -

We'll re-release a VM-ready image on v48.1 when it premieres - please hang tight until then!

Forrest: Thank you. If possible, could you also test your solution with VMware Player? VMware Player, unlike VMware Workstation, is free for non-commercial use.

Thanks - now successfully testing with VMware. However, the screen resolution is only 1024x768. Is it possible to change that?

    The VMware link is broken.

Following on from my question as to how to change the display resolution, I've tried the following. Unfortunately ReadyCloud gets stuck on the boot screen after restart. Any ideas?

    1. Start CloudReady
    2. Login
    3. Press CTRL-ALT-F2 to enter developer terminal

    Username : chronos
    Password : chrome

    4. sudo mount -o remount,rw /
    5. sudo vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Refer to https://www.washington.edu/computing/unix/vi.html for vi usage instructions

    6. Add 'Modes "----x----" to Section "Screen"

    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "DefaultScreen"
    Monitor "DefaultMonitor"
    Device "DefaultDevice"
    Modes "1920x1080"
    EndSection

    8. Save changes to xorg.conf
    9. Exit terminal mode: exit
    10. Restart Chrome OS

Any thoughts on my screen resolution query Forrest?

  • Avatar
    Forrest Smith

Julian - Unfortunately no - I'd love if someone could work out how to change it, but we've been unable to change resolution internally, unfortunately.

    Julian James

Shame! It seems to have been possible with previous versions of Chromium OS on VMware. I'll keep trying.

What's the username and password for developer mode shell login?
I have tried "chronos" for the username and password. But It's not working.

  • Avatar
    Forrest Smith

    Robin -

It's chronos/chrome (as long as you're on the free edition).
