New Release: v49.1 for free users!

See our blog for details on the changes in this release.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE: We discovered yesterday morning that our releases of v49.1 lacked MP3 support. We want to ensure we fix that before shipping any more OtA updates, so we've halted all updates for the time being.

If you'd like to proceed to v49.1 without MP3 support (between now and when we release a patch) you're still welcome to download v49.1 from http://neverware.com/freedownload and reinstall on your machine.

Sorry for the trouble!

Hi Forrest just letting you know it didn't work is says there is no initctrl command.

I typed what you posted 100% exactly.

Is there something missing or is it the wrong command?

Sorry for the double post forrest but everytime I hit edit it would take forever to load. So ended up doing it this way. Anyway I figured out what the problem was it's

    sudo initctl stop update_engine

you added in r when it wasn't needed but then after entering it right it said it was in unknown job.

it says initctl: unkown job: update_engine

Ah OK thanks Forrest in all honesty I figured something along those lines was the issue lol. I was thinking maybe / this or _ that in the other spaces lol.

Anyway hopefully I can download and do a clean install sometime soon.

    I haven't received V49.1 OTA update yet.
Is it released or something wrong with my settings?
Settings-"Check for and apply updates" tells I am up to date.
How can I force the update?

    Milou -

We've halted updates after discovering the MP3 support was broken in the new release. If you'd like to upgrade to 49.1 and have no MP3 support for some time until we release a patch, you can download from our main website and reinstall.

    Sorry for the trouble!

Wait cloudready OS has MP3 support? So I could make all my google play music available offline?

Edit: I didn't think that cause could of sworn earlier versions couldn't and never saw an update about it.

Yes we've had MP3 support for a while now.

I'm not totally sure if the Chrome App for Google play music allows offline caching direct from the store, but if you have the MP3 files on some other computer you can transfer them to CloudReady and use them that way for sure.

    Ah OK I 100% didn't know that.

Then yep it does you can download all your music for offline use on windows, linux, and android, no idea about macs though but probably though. So assume you can do the same on chrome/chromium os (cloudready)

I did try checking but internet to slow to bring up play music.

Anyway going to have to check that out then when v49 gets fixed and I download it, also have regular internet lol.

    Once again thanks Forrest.

Plus I just got to say it, this is why I like cloudready OS. It seems like all the devs really care about the users and especially you lol.

Anyway I just had to say that lol.

MP3 support seems only to have been broken in some ways (methods of reference) but not others.

unfortunately the macbook pro 5,1 with the nvidia 9400m still does not work with this version. The install crashes when the video mode is switched with both the 32 and 64 bit version. Just letting you know while looking forward to a fix, enjoying your product in a vm in the mean time.

    Norbert -

When you say "the install crashes" - does that mean that you're able to successfully boot the USB installer and initiate install? Or does to USB-boot itself crash?

the usb-boot itself crashes. sorry for the confusion.
