I've got CloudReady installed on couple desktops on one laptop. One desktop and one laptop automatically updated yesterday, but the other desktop didn't see the update by going to About Chromium dialog box.

I ended up doing clean install fo v53.2 using USB Drive but I had to setup some customizations afterwards.

Is there a way to force the automatic update on this desktop? The Desktop was 2010 HP Pavilion Desktop with 16GB RAM, 32GB SATA-to-CF Card. All were running Chromium v52 previously.

    Thanks.

    Boot up to login screen

    Hit ctrl + alt + f2

Login with user: chronos password: chrome

Type: update_engine_client -update and hit enter

    Press ctrl + alt + f1

Login as usual. Then view settings -> about chromium

Watch unattended update. Wait for the "please reboot now prompt"

    Hello xKyun:

Thanks for the informative instructions. I will try this for the next update!

EDIT:  I've tried this on my Dell Optiplex 380 at Work (and this does indeed work!)

    Thank you.

Great stuff, very happy to see updates coming in, I updated fine & this is my 1st update in the program, it was very easy, I didn't notice any increase in boot time, or in the time it taken to turn off, it must install right after downloading,

    Edit/Update : unlike windows LOL

I'm running CloudReady on a Dell Latitude D360, since version V.53 the laptop is getting very slow. Get a lot of freezes and restarts.

What can I do/ what do you suggest?

    Tnx in advance

    xKyun:

When I tried running the "update_engine_client -update" command on my HP Pavilion Desktop, I get the following error:

[1110/194436:INFO:update_engine_client.cc(447)] Forcing an update by setting app_version to ForcedUpdate.
[1110/194436:INFO:update_engine_client.cc(449)] Initiating update check and install.
[1110/194436:INFO:update_engine_client.cc(478)] Waiting for update to complete.
[1110/194436:ERROR:update_engine_client.cc(217)] Update failed, current operation is UPDATE_STATUS_IDLE, last error code is ErrorCode::kSuccess(0)

I'm running Version 53.0.2758.148 (64-Bit) and Platform 53.2.8. The other machines updated to Platform 53.2.49 if I'm not mistaken.

EDIT and UPDATE:  I was able to replicate the problem by movinig the SATA-to-CF Card Adapter to another computer (laptop) and had the same error.  This is caused by the Adapter only supporting IDE/ATA Mode instead of AHCI.  Replacing with an SSD (which supports AHCI and faster anyways) resolved the issue for me.

    Thanks.

    Erwin:

I'd make sure that you're local data is backed up and perform clean install of CloudReady. I had to clean install when the updates weren't working in v52.x versions.

Hi Erwin: I'm glad to hear! Doing a clean install sometimes fixes things.

Little late but sorry dear. I can't estimate everyones super exotic hardware config for a generic solution

    Hi 471ba:

The script above does work for all hardware I've tested on except for an obscure SATA=to-CF Card Adapter. Otherwise, it's worked with all other Hard Drives and SSD's I've tested with.

    Thanks.
