    Hi Richard,

    8 GB will help, but is not necessary for a good experience.

    You should be able to install on an HDD and then install again later on an SSD. SSD will help boot time a lot, and increase performance in general, but is also not necessary.

    The x201 is not a supported model, so I can't tell you how it'll work, but Thinkpads have been pretty reliable for us so far.
