    Not sure which it'd be - you can try disabling your GTX 1050 via BIOS (or unplugging it) to see if the machine boots using AMD integrated GPU - that would at least test if the NVIDIA alone is causing your problem. 

     

    This hardware is a bit too new and consumer-facing for us to have any reference models in house at Neverware, so please let us know what you find out!

    Ahh - apologies for my ignorance then - I assumed they were like Intel's chips and would have an AMD integrated GPU by default.

    Unfortunately that will indeed make it tough to test which is the culprit, unless you have an alternative GPU to swap in and compare.

     

    Based on some cursory Googling, I'll guess that the Nvidia GPU is to blame. Ryzen seems well supported on Linux 4.14, and we use nouveau, not the proprietary nvidia driver, increasing the odds that newer functionality might not work.

    I have this today as well..was there a recent update thats causing this..I'm running it on a hp pavilion g series..have for a long time with minimal issues

    Hey Carla,

    Thanks for chiming in - it's helpful to know that this was working for you until recently! We released v64 as an update on the 17th, so that might be what caused it.

    Do you know what version you were running on prior to your update that was working?

    I would have been running the most recent stable version..is there a work around or a way to roll back without the usb?..sadly thats my only working computer

    no rollback that works for now - sorry

    If you have your original installer usb, even if way out of date, you could use it as an environment to make a new usb installer from (as long as you have 2 USBs).

    Hope the thread isnt to old to post on - 

    I am having the same issue as the OP -gets stuck on the CloudReady logo and a pink graphical glitch line at the bottom of the screen; here is my setup:

    • HP Pavilion 580-137c Desktop Computer
    • AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Processor 3.0GHz
    • AMD Radeon RX 550 4GB GDDR5
    • 16GB DDR4-2400 RAM
    • 1TB 7,200RPM HDD (w/ windows 10 pro)
    • 126GB SSD (w/ Linux Mint Cinnamon)

    After reading, I am assuming that the issue is the AMD Radeon RX 550 4GB GDDR5 GPU. If this is the case, are there any solutions?

    This pc are just too new for CR to support. What I would do is buy a small ssd (32GB) with a sata to usb 3.0 adapter and install CR that way to test and see if it works. CR is Linux and Linux refreshes upon boot for new devices unlike windows but Microsoft has a windows GO version with the same feature

    Since CR doesn't work on your machine you'll have to plug the adapter you bought to a older pc and install CR that way but you have to disconnect all other drives but the sata to usb 3.0 adapter. CR has no option to select a drive so

    Thank you for your reply. I am learning so please allow me to clarify my understanding -

    1. buy an external SATA to USB 3.0 (cant be a thumb drive?)
    2. install CR on drive via an old PC
    3. boot new pc from USB drive

    is this correct? Thanks in advance -

    Yes and no thumb drive. You can buy a msata case and a small msata ssd off ebay for cheap. Had a friend done it before

    Hi Ryan,

     

    Note that a USB > SATA cable might help you install CloudReady to an external disk, but if your device's GPU is incompatible then that will remain a problem either way. Any issue with graphics will be independent of how you do (or don't) install.

    If graphics are the issue (which I think you're correct in inferring that they are) you may need to wait for a future release (watch our blog) where we make a kernel upgrade or other fix to get those newer AMD GPUs working.

    Thank you (both) for your assistance. I am just learning about hardware. I suppose (do not know) that the mobo does not have it's own graphics component and don't believe that the Ryzen 1700 does either - so switching/turning off in the BIOS would not prove beneficial. 

    Is there a ballpark time for a future release to support newer Ryzen processors (his was released Q1 2017)? I simply dislike sluggish windows and difficult Linux and wanted a robust hardware setup not available for Chromebooks/box.

    Yeah Forrest is right. When it comes to GPUs it is more of a mix bag sort of speak. If you have a nVidia card the chance is rather high for it to work BUT if it's a AMD card the chances are rather a mix/low chance of it working. I don't know the differences of *Why AMD cards or that of AMD Hardware in particular is a bit funky with Linux but just look at the Blogs or buy a cheap nVidia card

    Hi Ryan,

     

    We don't have a timeline - just depends on when time allows us to investigate the issue, and when School/Business demand will bring it to the top of our pipeline. We're only able to prioritize the hardware that we can support commercially for Schools and Businesses, so until we have demand for Ryzen from them we can't project a fix-date.

    I'm surprised mine doesn't work then since it's NVIDIA, not AMD (which sidenote, AMD's GPU Linux drivers actually have more support than NVIDIA unlike on Windows). The only thing in common with both of our setups is the AMD CPU and Ryzen is definitely supported by the kernel version CloudReady uses, heck even if it wasn't, CPU issues don't sound like they should cause a graphical glitch so it's odd that it's not the GPU then.

    Keep in mind that CloudReady/Chromium OS use a very different display stack than other Linux distros, which can cause major graphics issues even on GPUs that the kernel support well elsewhere.
