What version was before? Did you try resetting the BIOS?

  • Carbon-based Unit

Unsure of the previous version, I made the USB image probably three months ago, when I bought my Chromebook (I tried Cloudready first to see if I'd like the OS).  I'd kept the USB stick until this week when I downloaded the latest disk image.

Yes, I reset the BIOS settings in the HP, just to be sure.

What exact model is your laptop?

  • Carbon-based Unit

    HP Pavilion g6 1220sa

AMD CPU /w Radeon   6GB RAM

With a 32GB SSD drive that I put in.

Hmm I can't help sorry. I haven't messed a AMD Laptop in years. I do KNOW AMD drivers for Linux at least for older models like in the ATI Days were a mess and not worth it for Linux Users. So I can't help sorry. Wait for a Admin which will be in today or this weekend at some time

Thanks for trying Joseph.  I was lucky with this, the graphics always worked fine in Linux - it's only run Linux since I picked it up in 2011.

Well your laptop isn't on the support list so just wait for a Admin to look into it. Can I ask what brand of USB stick you use or the ones you have used and the size either a 8/16GB

It's a 32GB recovery drive that came with a Windows 10 PC I bought the wife.  I've been using it successfully in the past for Win10, Ubuntu and CloudReady.

Again, I've remade the USB and it seems to boot the first time, but VERY slowly - like 5 minutes from power on to desktop.  I try to install to hard drive/SSD, it freezes every now and then and appears to complete.  The computer doesn't shutdown though even after 30 minutes and the fans start.  I'm forced to power down but after the HD is unbootable and the USB just goes to a blank screen.

I've found an 8GB USB thumb drive, but I'm going to have to move data about as I use it on another machine.  When I'm done I'll try that and see if it makes a difference.

Recovery drive as in... A Large partition for a Windows Recovery? You realize CR wipes the drive upon installation right? Do you have other HDDs connected?

  • Carbon-based Unit

The USB stick is a 32GB 'recovery drive' that came with a PC,  but I've been using it ok for installing OSes.

I realise the internal HD/SSD would be wiped, that's what I wanted to do - install Cloudready.

32GB is a bit too big for a installation Installer for CR. Just saying but it won't hurt anything. Use that 8GB stick and tell me what happens

Didn't work.  Wouldn't even boot the USB.

I'm packing it away now, it could be hardware failing, who knows.  I don't really have much more time or energy to waste on it.

Thanks for your help, I may try again on another machine sometime.

OK. Could of been the USB Brand. Brands such as A-Data, PNY, Samsung, Etc do fine. It's SanDisk that causes issues. Well hope to hear from you next time
