this is a bug we're just finding out about - you can get your files via the browser at

    file:///home/chronos/user/Downloads

From there you can right click to save them to your Drive folder.

Is there gonna be an imminent fix for this or will it have to wait?

  • Forrest Smith

    Don't know yet, sorry!

  • Tony Baloney

...When there is can I update from v73 and bypass this v74 altogether? If you're not prepared to answer this now can you give guidance when v74 is available with the fix?

I got Download folder back by disable flag #enable-myfiles-volume!

    Thank you, Torbjorn.

Thanks from Neverware as well, Torbjorn!

We're investigating the issue for future updates, and have added that workaround to our release notes on v74.1.

...WFM! I remember once enabling that flag to see what would happen NOW! I lost my Downloads folder in the Files App! D'oh!!!!

  • Tony Baloney

Seems to be missing a migration PLAN from the previous configuration!!!!!!

"It seems that Google might be considering making this the default, with the flag being necessary for reverting back to the old system. This is because as currently implemented, enabling the flag hides all previous content in the Downloads folder."

    WHY??????

*** & it hides the Downloads folder itself!!!!! ***

Checked my Daughters Chromebook on dev Version 74.0.3729.37 & MyFiles works(can add a folder) as well as the original Downloads folder is visible.

  • Tony Baloney

...Any progress in getting the Downloads Folder back with MyFiles turned on???

  • Forrest Smith

We're planning to work around the issue using the flag specified above in v72.4.

Right now, any new profile you create won't have the issue. So if you powerwash your device (not a real powerwash, just they clobber command from terminal) you can start fresh with both my files editable and s downloads folder showing.

If you do take the time to do this, you'll want to manually set there same flag to "enabled" since, again, in v74.2 we intend to force-disable that flash in order to prevent our (larger segment of unsuspecting) beta users freon getting confused while we work out the details.

  • Tony Baloney

..I just moved the contents of Downloads to a flash drive created a new folder called "Download" (no s) after enabling MyFiles flag. I then created all MyFolders & went into Settings and set my downloads to go to my new "Download" folder. Works for now without power washing......

So you're gonna make the Default for #enable-myfiles-volume to be Disabled then??????? Which makes anyone who Enabled it immune to your workaround??????

    Thank you, Torbjorn.

I created a "Backup" folder in CrOS 74.1, but am now no longer able to access it in MyFiles. I tried all three values of #enable-myfiles-volume.

Is there any chance to access the folder via shell? Similar to $ cd /home/chronos/user/Downloads ?

  • Forrest Smith

What was the location of your Backup folder? was it in MyFiles or inside of Downloads?

  • H.B.

    directly in MyFiles

  • Forrest Smith

Sorry - I'm unsure what might be the case here. When/in what CloudReady version did you first create that backup folder? Did you enable the flag prior to v74?

It's possible that content was overwritten if you force-disabled the flag at any point.

  • H.B.
    1. I created the Backup folder directly in MyFiles in v74.1
    2. Today after update to v74.2 I couldn't see the Backup folder anymore
    3. I only learned about this flag after point 2. Then I tried all 3 settings Enable/Disable/Default

    Thanks.

  • Forrest Smith

I understand - thanks for laying that out. I forgot that you were probably already updated to 74.2.

I think, for now, you wont be able to override the My Files writeability - it seems our workaround to help everyone retain their Downloads folder is overriding the My Files flag no matter how you set it.

  • Tony Baloney

How about setting DEFAULT to DISABLED and allowing ENABLED to work as it (almost)should?????

  • Forrest Smith

    Thanks for your SUGGESTION!!!!!!!!

  • Tony Baloney

    @Forrest Sarcasm????

  • Forrest Smith

Parody in formatting, but genuine sentiment

  • Tony Baloney
