My Acer Chromebook 11 C740 stopped automatically installing security updates from Google a few months ago. Recently, I tried to install CloudReady from Neverware on it without success. I managed to download the necessary things onto my computer and USB stick. (The name of what I saved into my downloads folder on the computer is cloudready-free-92.4.45-64bit [dot] zip.)
Where I've encountered the issue is that I have no idea how to boot this Chromebook from the USB. The directions on the page about installing CloudReady say to hit F12 as the Acer logo appears on Acer computers. My computer's keyboard lacks the F keys entirely. When I look at keyboard function info under settings, my computer says that I should hit the search button, then "1 through =" in order to get F key functions. I don't understand what that means. I've tried several key combinations while the Acer logo has been displayed right after turning it on, and none of them have worked. I've tried holding down the search, esc, and a few combinations of two keys. I also don't know at what point I should put in the USB stick while turning it on for booting or before turning it on. Also, how does developer mode play into this? I haven't been able to figure out that either.
If anyone can help with any info on how to do this, I'd really appreciate it, even if advice for my machine wouldn't be official. I've already submitted this question on multiple other websites, and no one has replied with anything.
